Who we are

Total Dance is a family-owned dance specialist based in Clyde North, VIC. We're not a generic activewear store with a dance section. We live and breathe ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary and pilates. We stock the brands serious dancers ask for, fit-test every new range, and run an in-person store where you can try before you buy.

Which brand should I buy?

Different brands suit different needs. Here's the honest version.

For ballet

  • Bloch. Our most-recommended ballet brand. Heritage Pointe Shoes, Hanami Canvas Split-Sole soft shoes, Lily full-sole leather, Embrace Convertible tights. Reliable across kids and adults.
  • Capezio. Strong on pointe shoes (Airess, Cambré, Ava) and classical leotards. Often the right second pair when Bloch doesn't quite fit.
  • Wear Moi. Elevé. Ainsliewear. Premium ballet leotards. Choose these for senior students, exam wear, or company auditions.
  • Total Dance Studio Wear. Our own Australian-made label. Great value for everyday class and starter wear.

For jazz, tap, lyrical and contemporary

  • Bloch. E-Series Slip-On Jazz Shoes are a workhorse. Hanami Canvas Pirouette for lyrical.
  • Capezio. Mary Jane and Showtime Tappers cover kids through to adults.
  • FootUndeez by Bloch. Barely There Spin with Ease, the contemporary staple.

Sizing, the honest guide

Dance sizing is rarely the same as street sizing. Three rules.

  1. Always check the size guide on the product page. Each brand sizes differently. Bloch's Childs Small isn't the same as Sylvia P's.
  2. Pointe shoes need an in-person fit. No size chart can replace getting them on the foot. Book a Pointe Shoe Fitting at our Clyde North store, or get in touch for a virtual consultation.
  3. When in doubt, size up for kids. They grow. Adult dancers should fit closer to their stage size.
